One Year Ago

January 22 will always be an important date in my family. It was the day we accepted Princess' referral. Today she is a happy, healthy, full of life, into everything toddler.

Princess wasn't always the happy girl she is today. I believe when we accepted her referral her life and future were very fragile. To understand how far she has come you have to see where she was. The pictures below were her referral pictures. The one in the red shirt is still painful to look at. I think this was before her heart surgery. She was a very sick little girl. I post these not to make people feel sad or bad. I post them because I get so many emails from people who are considering adopting children with cleft lip and palate or congenital heart disease. It is hard to imagine a child who is malnourished and sick thriving a few short months later. My girl, like so many other special needs babies, is no doubt, a miracle.

  1. She is such a beautiful girl and so lucky to have found her family, in the midst of this great big world.
Love the pictures and stories about how she is adapting to her new life. Your mom and dad are regular patrons of mine at the library so I found your blog through them.
It's always fun to see new pictures of your beautiful Evie. :)

  2. A wonderful post about a year of anticipation, waiting, excitement, tears, and all the rest. Your family has truly been a blessing to Evie and I can only imagine that she has returned that blessing 20-fold. God bless you!

  4. Hi! I found your blog through the No Hands But Ours site and immediately fell in love! My husband and I (plus our 3 bio kids!) are currently about 4 months into the paperchase to adopt a little girl from China, with a Medical Checklist marked "Major CHD or Major CHD/Cleft". I'm guessing that our path will be similiar to yours. :) And your Evie is such a darling!!!

  5. Just look at her! I've seen your blog before---I'm adding it to my list now! You can just see the life and expression all over her little face. Amazing what love, nutrition, and and warm environment can do for these kids. She looks like she keeps you busy!
